So, unless you’ve spent your spring/summer hiding under a rock (which you could be forgiven for, with these current inferno temperatures) you will have noticed that big buttons are all the rage at the moment.
It started with a couple of brilliant designers using buttons as statements rather than mere functioning fastenings. Since then, the big button trend has spread like wildfire and these circular accents have been popping up left, right and centre (literally).
That’s why I’m a little bit obsessed with RIVER ISLAND’S new collection. Take this beautiful bardot dress as a prime example.
The buttons add a casual cuteness which makes for an unbelievably relaxed summer look. The stripes are bold yet timeless and the print looks perfect with neutrals and tans (it also happens to look epic with a sun kissed glow so I’m giving you full permission to go online and book a holiday).
I love the updated cold shoulder detail. The neckline is so flattering; because it’s structured it’s more stable than other cold shoulder varietals which can be frustrating and impractical to wear. The shoulder straps continue all the way around to the back too, adding a little je ne sais quoi.
It is available in black for those who like to keep things understated (I’m currently thinking about ordering this too as you can never have too many LBD’s). Lastly, to throw a real spanner in the works they brought out a khaki version as well, and we all know how I feel about khaki numbers.
Keeping my button obsession going strong is this petite rust strapless number for sexy summer date nights.
Here I chose caramel shades to accompany this strapless beauty and make my legs appear that little bit longer but neutrals and tans would look dreamy as well. As the dress is designed for petite gals like me it hugs in all the right places without the hemline being too long on the legs.
I can see this one lasting the long haul too as it is a perfect autumn colour and can be paired with a denim jacket when things start to get a little chillier (NB I was actually roasting like a baby chicken when I took these date night pics but I just wanted you to see the full look).
The colour works on lots of different skin tones (just like khaki), but what I love the most about this dress is the asymmetric cut which makes the look more edgy for dinner dates and cocktails in town.
Now I’m off to eat a Calippo in the garden.
Have a great weekend and happy shopping.
NB: RIVER ISLAND kindly let me pick my top two favourites from their website but because I genuinely struggled to narrow it down I am going to link some other fave pieces below. I’m also linking some nude court shoes which come in a couple of different colours to suit different skin tones. Impressive eh??
All thoughts and views on the items are my own as always. I hate fibbers xx
